Harry Potter and the Bible

You know there’s a parallel between Harry Potter and the Bible. Too bad all the atheists are crazy for Harry.

By the way, the guy who that says he’ll see Gandhi and Hitler in Hell is completely wrong. Hitler was a Roman Catholic.

  1. If Hitler was a Roman Catholic, and the Catholics are right about how heaven and hell work, I’m pretty sure he’s going to hell. Catholicism teaches that confession of mortal sins and doing penance are necessary for being saved, and I’m going out on a limb and saying that there’s no way Hitler did enough penance, or probably confessed what he did as sinful. Also he killed himself – another mortal sin that you can’t repent of.

The deeper issue, though, is that someone who acts like Hitler and claims to have salvific Christian faith is lying. James 2 says that faith without works is dead. If your faith doesn’t lead to good works, something is wrong with your faith, and I wouldn’t count on it being salvific. More pointedly, if you claim to have faith and persist in doing evil, you are lying and not saved by Christ (1 John 3:6).

  2. A compelling and well-researched biography called Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet Spy by Eric Metaxas sheds light on Hitler’s thoughts about Christianity. They didn’t seem to warm and fuzzy.

It’s a good read. Check it out.
